Havertz goal gives Arsenal their first Anfield win since 2012 and sends them top of the Premier League

Kai Havertz scored after 16 minutes from Declan Rice's low cross and Arsenal held on for a 1-0 win. They lead the Premier League by three points after nine games, BBC Sport said.

Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday 1 November, their first Premier League win there since 2012, the clubs reported.

Kai Havertz scored in the 16th minute. Arsenal won the ball back as Liverpool played out from a goal-kick, and Declan Rice’s low cross found Havertz at the far post, Liverpool FC’s report said. Arsenal said the goal made Havertz the highest-scoring German player in Premier League history.

Florian Wirtz hit the crossbar with a first-half free-kick and Alexis Mac Allister headed over. Arsenal said Liverpool did not have a shot on target in the second half and that the result was the club’s 300th Premier League away win.

“It’s been 14 years, that’s a long time,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told BBC Sport. Arsenal had lost to League Two Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup four days earlier.

Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola said Alexander Isak should have had a penalty for a shirt pull. “We definitely deserved a goal,” he said. It was Liverpool’s second defeat under Iraola, the club said.

Arsenal have 24 points from nine games, three ahead of second-placed Manchester City, BBC Sport said. Liverpool are fifth on 15. Arsenal visit Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.
