Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: Isak scores as Liverpool end Brighton's winning run and move up to fourth
A Pascal Gross own goal from Florian Wirtz's shot and Alexander Isak's finish from Bradley Barcola's cross came four minutes apart in the first half at Anfield.
Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday 25 October for their fourth win in a row in all competitions, Liverpool FC reported. Both goals came in the first 21 minutes, and The Guardian said the result ended Brighton’s winning run.
How the goals came
In the 17th minute Ronald Araujo’s cross was only half-cleared and Florian Wirtz’s low shot went in off Brighton’s Pascal Gross, according to Liverpool’s match report. Four minutes later Bradley Barcola blocked a clearance by Olivier Boscagli, chased the loose ball and crossed for Alexander Isak, who scored from close range.
Brighton’s Yasin Ayari shot over from a Gross cut-back in the 14th minute and hit the post in the 36th. Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen saved a powerful shot from Araujo before half-time. Brighton pushed more players forward after the break but did not score, and Liverpool kept a clean sheet.
Isak, Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Barcola returned to the starting line-up after the midweek Champions League win over Villarreal. The attendance was 60,404.
What it means
The win moved Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool up to fourth in the Premier League, the club said.
