Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland: first league win of the season after Danso red card

AFC Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday 18 October for their first Premier League win of the season, according to Sky Sports, ESPN and BBC Sport.

Marcus Tavernier headed in from close range in the sixth minute after Evanilson got behind the Sunderland defence and set him up, Sky Sports reported. In the 17th minute, Sunderland defender Kevin Danso was shown a straight red card for bringing down Evanilson as he ran through on goal.

Evanilson made it 2-0 in the 48th minute, rounding goalkeeper Robin Roefs after a loose back pass from Omar Alderete, according to Sky Sports and ESPN. Roefs made several saves to keep the score at 2-0, Sky Sports said. ESPN’s match data showed Sunderland did not have a shot on target.

Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose told Sky Sports: “If I’m honest, I feel relief, but not just me.” He added: “Today we have our first win but we need more and want more.” Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris said: “We were not Sunderland today and that is not acceptable.”
