Brighton & Hove Albion beat Crystal Palace 5-0 in the Premier League at the American Express Stadium in Falmer on Sunday 18 October, according to the official Premier League match centre, ESPN and BBC Sport. The matchweek 7 game kicked off at 2pm UK time (1pm GMT, Sunday 18 October) and finished at about 3:55pm UK time. The attendance was 31,440, the Premier League said.

Brighton led 3-0 after 10 minutes. Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot scored an own goal in the fourth minute, Diego Gómez scored from long range in the seventh minute and Yasin Ayari made it 3-0 in the 10th minute, according to the Premier League and ESPN.

Gómez won the ball near the halfway line and shot from there, catching Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez off his line, ESPN reported. BBC Sport and ESPN said it was the longest-range Premier League goal since Wayne Rooney’s for Everton against West Ham in November 2017. ESPN said Brighton were the ninth team in Premier League history to score three goals in the first 10 minutes of a game.

Charalampos Kostoulas added a fourth in the 49th minute, which stood after a VAR check, and substitute Jack Hinshelwood scored the fifth from close range after a corner in the 84th minute, ESPN reported.
