Tottenham Hotspur beat Coventry City 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday 19 October (UK time) for their first Premier League win of the season, according to BBC Sport and The Guardian. AP reported that Spurs were the last of the league’s 20 teams to win a match this season.

James Maddison opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a first-time shot into the top corner after a run by Mohammed Kudus, BBC Sport reported. BBC Sport said it was Maddison’s first Premier League start since 27 April 2025, after a knee ligament (ACL) injury.

Jack Rudoni equalised for Coventry four minutes into the second half, set up by Brandon Thomas-Asante. Omar Marmoush restored the lead in the 58th minute with a shot from about 20 metres, his first goal since joining Spurs on loan from Manchester City, The Guardian reported. The Guardian said Marmoush caught Coventry’s Milan van Ewijk with an elbow in the build-up; referee Andrew Madley let play continue and the video assistant referee did not intervene. Coventry manager Frank Lampard told BBC Sport the goal was “questionable because the arm up in the face”.

Substitute Ben Davies scored the third in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Dejan Kulusevski came on for his first appearance since a knee injury in May 2025, The Guardian said.

What it means

Spurs, coached by Roberto De Zerbi, moved out of the bottom three and above Coventry, who dropped to 17th, The Guardian reported. According to FotMob, Coventry have one win, one draw and five defeats from seven games.
