Crypto exchange Bitget has added Russia and Belarus to the list of “Prohibited Countries” in its terms of use. The current version of the terms, published on Bitget’s website, is dated 16 October 2026.
The list also includes the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, Japan, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Iran and North Korea, among others, and lets Bitget add other locations at its discretion.
In a post on X on 17 October, Bitget said it had “made the decision to discontinue services for certain users”, calling it “a one-off exercise”. It said users’ funds “remain safe” and that affected users would receive notices by email, in-app message or push notification setting out next steps, deadlines and withdrawal arrangements. The post did not name any countries.
According to notices quoted by Interfax-Ukraine, new trades, orders and subscriptions became unavailable from 10:00 on 18 October. Users were told to close all positions and withdraw their assets by 10:00 on 21 October, after which remaining positions would be closed automatically and account access restricted.
Bitget has not given a public reason for the change, RIA Novosti reported.
