Manchester United 0-3 Bournemouth: Carrick's side lose at Old Trafford with Fernandes dropped
Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scored for Bournemouth. United have won one of eight Premier League games and are 16th; BBC Sport reported that senior figures at the club are in talks about Michael Carrick's future.
Bournemouth beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday 25 October, BBC Sport and The Guardian reported. United manager Michael Carrick left captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench. BBC Sport said Fernandes had questioned Carrick’s tactics after Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como. Harry Maguire captained the side.
How the goals came
Rayan scored in the 38th minute, unmarked when Justin Kluivert’s free-kick dropped to him, The Guardian reported. Marcus Tavernier made it 2-0 shortly before half-time after Leny Yoro slipped and Adrien Truffert crossed. Evanilson scored the third in the 71st minute: he reached a through ball before goalkeeper Senne Lammens, went round him and scored from a tight angle. Fernandes stayed on the bench throughout.
What it means
BBC Sport said United have seven points from eight games (one win, four draws, three defeats), are 16th and have gone eight games without a win in all competitions. Bournemouth have won four in a row, The Guardian said.
BBC Sport reported that senior figures at Old Trafford are in serious talks about Carrick’s future. The club had made no announcement at the time of publication.
It wasn’t a farewell from me… The situation is where we are and we haven’t had results or performances that have been good enough. Michael Carrick, speaking to Sky Sports
“We’re fully behind Michael,” Maguire told BBC Sport.
