Freiburg 1-3 Bayern Munich: Gnabry scores 100th Bundesliga goal as Bayern return to the top

Bayern Munich won 3-1 at Freiburg on Sunday 25 October and returned to the top of the Bundesliga, BBC Sport and Bundesliga.com reported. Assistant coach Aaron Danks was in charge because head coach Vincent Kompany is in hospital after collapsing on Friday. Before kick-off Bayern fans displayed a banner that BBC Sport translated as “Get well soon Vincent - we are by your side”.

How the goals came

Upamecano scored in the 16th minute, running clear from the halfway line onto a pass from Olise, SC Freiburg’s match report said. Gnabry made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute after a one-two with Nathaniel Brown; Bundesliga.com said it was his 100th Bundesliga goal.

Freiburg goalkeeper Mio Backhaus saved from Harry Kane and Ismael Saibari before Bayern midfielder Tom Bischof turned a cross into his own net in the 82nd minute. Olise scored the third in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Backhaus lost the ball.

Freiburg said Bayern were without Manuel Neuer, Aleksandar Pavlović, Joshua Kimmich and Luis Díaz. The crowd was 34,700.

What it means

ESPN listed Bayern on 17 points from seven games (five wins, two draws), the same total as Borussia Dortmund, who had gone top on Saturday.

Hoffenheim 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen. Substitute Andrej Kramarić scored a 79th-minute penalty, Hoffenheim’s 1,000th Bundesliga goal, and set up Alexander Prass for the second in the 89th minute. Max Moerstedt added a third in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Bundesliga.com said the result ended Leverkusen’s five-game unbeaten run.
