TSG Hoffenheim beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 at Borussia-Park on Sunday 18 October, according to the Bundesliga and the dpa news agency. The matchday-six game kicked off at 5.30pm local time (3:30pm Sunday GMT), and the crowd was 43,702, dpa reported.

Bambasé Conté gave Hoffenheim the lead in the 11th minute from Alexander Prass’s pass, with the visitors’ first shot of the match, the league said. Fisnik Asllani hit the crossbar with a free kick before half-time. Gladbach supporters whistled their team at the break, dpa reported.

Seventeen-year-old Wael Mohya equalised for Gladbach in the 49th minute after a pass from Florian Neuhaus. Prass restored Hoffenheim’s lead five minutes later with a left-footed finish, set up by Adam Hložek, who later hit the post, according to the Bundesliga. The league named Prass Man of the Match.

It was Alexander Blessin’s first home game as Gladbach coach, the Bundesliga said. Gladbach were without seven regular players, including captain Tim Kleindienst, dpa reported.

“Nothing is being given to us at the moment; we now have to work for everything step by step,” Blessin told Sportschau. Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer told the broadcaster the win was “an important step in our development”. (Both quotes translated from German.)

What it means

Gladbach have lost all six of their league games. dpa reported that this equals the Bundesliga record for the worst start to a season, and that three other clubs have previously had no points after six games. Gladbach are bottom; Hoffenheim, with their second win of the season, move up to 14th, according to dpa.
