Bayern thrash Leipzig 6-1 as Díaz scores hat-trick and Kane marks 100th Bundesliga game with a goal

Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday 17 October, with Luis Díaz scoring a hat-trick, according to the Bundesliga and BBC Sport.

Díaz opened the scoring in the 12th minute from a Joshua Kimmich pass and then set up Aleksandar Pavlović for the second. Michael Olise made it 3-0 before half-time.

Díaz scored again shortly after the restart. Harry Kane then scored from close range in the 53rd minute on his 100th Bundesliga appearance, his 102nd goal in the competition, the league said. Kane also set up two goals. Díaz completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute. Substitute Andrija Maksimović scored for Leipzig in added time.

BBC Sport reported that Bayern had 17 shots on target and that Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt made 11 saves. The Bundesliga said Díaz was voted Man of the Match.

The win followed draws against Augsburg in the league and Viking in the Champions League. Bayern are top with 14 points, level with Borussia Dortmund but ahead on goal difference. BBC Sport noted that Freiburg, on 13 points with a game in hand, would go two points clear by beating Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Leipzig are seventh with nine points.

Bayern were without Jamal Musiala (hamstring) and Manuel Neuer (foot), the league’s team news said. They host Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday 21 October.
