US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 33% among American adults, the lowest in Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos polling, The Washington Post reported on Sunday 18 October. Sixty-six per cent disapprove, including 52% who strongly disapprove.

Two weeks before the 3 November midterm elections, the poll found Democrats leading by eight points among registered and likely voters for control of the House of Representatives. In July, the Democratic lead among registered voters was three points.

Among likely voters, 38% approve of Trump. His approval on the economy fell to 28%, from 33% in July. For the first time in Post-ABC polling since 2014, registered voters said they trust Democrats more than Republicans on the economy, by 40% to 33%.

Sixty-five per cent said taking military action against Iran was a mistake. Seventy-one per cent said petrol was not affordable; in February, before the war, 71% said it was affordable.

The poll was conducted online from 9 to 13 October among 2,545 adults. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.

House Speaker Mike Johnson told the Associated Press he believes Republicans will hold their House majority.
