Eintracht Frankfurt release sporting director Markus Krösche at his own request
The club's supervisory board approved Krösche's request to step down with immediate effect. Axel Hellmann takes over the sporting director's duties for now, the club said, according to dpa.
Eintracht Frankfurt said on Sunday 18 October that sporting director Markus Krösche has been released from his duties with immediate effect, at his own request.
The club said Krösche asked the chairman of its supervisory board, club president Mathias Beck, to be released, and that the board agreed unanimously at an extraordinary meeting on Sunday. His contract, which runs until 30 June 2028, continues “in adjusted form”, the club said. It did not give further details.
In comments released by the club in German, Krösche said that after more than five years at Frankfurt he had for some time felt he needed a change, and that a new impetus might also help the club. Beck thanked him and cited the club’s 2022 Europa League win and its Champions League appearances during his time. Beck said it was important to settle the matter before the club’s upcoming members’ meeting.
The dpa news agency reported that Axel Hellmann will take over Krösche’s duties on an interim basis and will move from spokesman to chairman of the club’s executive board. The club will decide on a long-term appointment in the coming weeks, dpa reported.
Krösche, 46, joined Frankfurt in 2021, according to dpa. dpa reported that he had been linked with AC Milan in June but that no move took place. Frankfurt are 11th in the Bundesliga after six games, with two wins, two draws and two defeats.
