Aston Villa 2-1 Man City: Nicolas Jackson double ends City's perfect start
Jackson scored after six minutes and again on the hour at Villa Park. Erling Haaland headed City level, but Enzo Maresca's side lost their first Premier League game of the season.
Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday 24 October, ending City’s run of seven wins from seven Premier League games under Enzo Maresca. Nicolas Jackson scored both Villa goals, BBC Sport, Sky Sports and The Guardian reported.
How the goals came
Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Marc Guéhi miscontrolled a pass from Rúben Dias and Jackson ran through to score, The Guardian reported.
Erling Haaland equalised early in the second half, heading in a cross from Iliman Ndiaye. It was his 13th goal of the season, and The Guardian, citing Opta, said he has now scored in seven successive appearances.
Jackson restored Villa’s lead on the hour. He met a cut-back from Ibrahim Mbaye, and the shot went under City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to The Guardian. Jackson was substituted with eight minutes left.
City pushed for a second equaliser. Ndiaye hit a post, Ian Maatsen cleared a late Haaland effort off the line and Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made several saves, the reports said.
It was incredible; we got the win, which is the most important thing. Man City are a strong team, the league leaders… It’s just the beginning; we’re trying to work game by game. Nicolas Jackson, speaking to TNT Sports
