Chelsea 0-2 Tottenham: Penders own goal and Tel solo goal as Palmer is sent off
Goalkeeper Mike Penders punched a corner into his own net on his first league start, Cole Palmer was sent off for a second yellow card and Mathys Tel sealed a rare Spurs win at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 24 October. Both goals came in the last 15 minutes, and Chelsea finished with 10 men after Cole Palmer was sent off, Sky Sports and Reuters reported.
Late goals and a red card
The game was goalless until the 77th minute. Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, making his first Premier League start, tried to punch a Mateus Fernandes corner clear under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke and knocked it into his own net, according to Sky Sports.
Three minutes later Palmer was shown a second yellow card for a late challenge on Conor Gallagher, Reuters reported. Sky Sports said he had been booked earlier after an off-the-ball incident with Fernandes.
Mathys Tel made it 2-0 in the 87th minute. He dribbled past defenders on his own and finished low. Spurs goalkeeper Antonín Kinský made several saves earlier in the game, and James Maddison went off injured early in the second half, Sky Sports said.
A rare win at the Bridge
Sky Sports said Spurs had won only one of their previous 34 Premier League visits to Chelsea. It was their first clean-sheet win at Stamford Bridge in any competition since December 1986. Sky Sports added that Penders became the second Chelsea goalkeeper to score a Premier League own goal, after Petr Čech in 2009. Spurs moved up to 12th.
