League Two side Fleetwood Town knocked Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, winning 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the fourth round at Highbury Stadium, according to Arsenal’s official report and The Guardian.

The match

Play was halted after less than two minutes because a drone was flying over the ground, with the delay lasting several minutes, both reports said.

Aaron Loupalo-Bi, on loan from Fulham, gave Fleetwood the lead in the 21st minute. Viktor Gyökeres equalised early in the second half; The Guardian said the goal came from a cross by 18-year-old debutant Ceadach O’Neill.

Arsenal’s 16-year-old Max Dowman was sent off late in normal time after a scuffle with Fleetwood’s Harrison Neal, Arsenal’s report said.

The shootout

Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz and Gyökeres scored for Arsenal. Neal, Coughlan, Will Davies and Andy Cannon converted for Fleetwood before goalkeeper Jay Lynch saved from Bruno Guimarães. Conor Haughey then scored the winning kick, according to both sources.

The Guardian described the result as a Carabao Cup shock. Fleetwood, coached by Matt Lawlor, reach the quarter-finals. Arsenal visit Liverpool in the Premier League on 1 November, the club said.
