Chelsea 2-0 Manchester United: Rogers and Palmer score after Martínez is sent off; United drop to 17th

Morgan Rogers scored five minutes into the second half and Cole Palmer converted a penalty after Lisandro Martínez's second yellow card. United are without a win in nine games in all competitions, BBC Sport said.

Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 31 October (kick-off 12:30pm GMT), Sky Sports and Chelsea FC reported.

The first half ended 0-0. Matheus Cunha had a header for United disallowed for offside after a VAR check, and Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders made two saves, BBC Sport said.

Morgan Rogers put Chelsea ahead in the 50th minute after Roméo Lavia won the ball, running through the United defence and chipping the ball in.

Lisandro Martínez, already booked for a foul on Rogers, raised his elbow into Wesley Fofana’s face as Estêvão took a corner in the 63rd minute. After a VAR review, Martínez was sent off for a second yellow card and Chelsea were awarded a penalty, BBC Sport reported. Cole Palmer scored it in the 64th minute.

Estêvão had a goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check, and Bryan Mbeumo hit the crossbar for United in stoppage time.

“It’s a big moment in the game,” United head coach Michael Carrick said of the red card. “The second goal and losing a man at that stage had a big influence on it, for sure.”

BBC Sport said United are nine games without a win in all competitions, their worst run since 1988-89. Martínez will be suspended for United’s next league game, against Aston Villa. Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea are fourth on 16 points and United are 17th on seven, according to BBC Sport’s table.
