Serie A: Varela scores twice as Monza beat Cagliari 4-0; Simeone double gives Torino 3-0 win at Parma

Monza beat Cagliari 4-0 and Torino won 3-0 at Parma on Monday 19 October, completing the seventh round of Serie A, according to AFP, Football Italia and ANSA.

Monza 4 Cagliari 0. Eddy Kouadio scored his first Serie A goal just before half-time (AFP and Football Italia put it in the 39th minute, Eurosport in the 40th). Gustavo Varela made it 2-0 two minutes after the restart, set up Jay Robinson for the third in the 66th minute and scored again in the 79th, Eurosport reported. Monza goalkeeper Tornqvist had earlier saved one-on-ones from M’Bala Nzola and Mendy. Eurosport said Cagliari had conceded three goals in their first six games, and that coach Fabio Pisacane watched from the stands while suspended, with assistant Murelli on the bench.

Parma 0 Torino 3. Giovanni Simeone scored in the fourth minute and again in the 69th with a shot from about 25 metres, and Ché Adams scored in the 24th minute, ANSA reported. ANSA said it was Torino’s second win in a row and Alberto Gilardino’s first home game as Parma coach. Tuttomercatoweb said Parma have lost both games under Gilardino 3-0.

Table (Tuttomercatoweb): Inter and Lazio 19 points, Roma 17, Milan 15, Como 14. Cagliari stayed seventh on 13. Torino are level with Napoli on 10, Monza are 14th with seven, Parma 19th with four and Venezia last with three.
