Bottom club Venezia beat Napoli 1-0 at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Saturday 17 October, according to Lega Serie A and Sky.

It was Davide Nicola’s first game as Venezia coach after Giovanni Stroppa was sacked. Venezia had lost all six of their earlier league games, the league said.

The first half was goalless. Napoli’s best chances fell to Amir Rrahmani and Lorenzo Lucca, Sky reported. Akor Adams scored with a right-footed shot early in the second half after Rrahmani misjudged a header, according to Sky.

Napoli coach Massimiliano Allegri had started Kevin De Bruyne, Rasmus Højlund and Frank Anguissa on the bench, the league said, and brought several of them on after the goal. Midway through the half, Napoli were given a penalty for a foul by Venezia’s Matías Moreno on Højlund. Goalkeeper Filip Stanković saved De Bruyne’s spot-kick and made several more saves late in the game.

It was Napoli’s third defeat in seven league games, Sky reported. Napoli are ninth with 10 points. Venezia remain bottom with three points.

Napoli host Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday.
