Supermodel Cindy Crawford has said her family is “beyond heartbroken” over the death of her son, model Presley Gerber, the BBC reported.

“He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever,” Crawford wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday (US time), alongside a black-and-white photograph of him. “We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability.”

“We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years,” she wrote, adding that the family was “grateful for the outpouring of love and support”. The post was signed “Mom, Dad and Kaia”.

Gerber, 27, died on 20 September at a rehabilitation facility in California. Santa Monica police said they were investigating his death as a suspected overdose and that there was no indication of foul play. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner lists the case as pending further investigation.

His sister, model Kaia Gerber, also posted a tribute on Sunday that included childhood videos and a four-page letter to her brother, the BBC said. “I am learning how to love you when I cannot see you,” she wrote.

Presley Gerber made his catwalk debut for Italian label Moschino at 16. He had spoken publicly about his mental health and drug use and posted a series of Instagram videos he called “Mental Health Mondays”, the BBC reported. His father, businessman Rande Gerber, co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand with George Clooney.
