Celtics sign Payton Pritchard to two-year, $44.2 million contract extension
The extension starts in the 2028-29 season and includes a mutual option for 2029-30, according to NBA.com and The Boston Globe.
The Boston Celtics have signed guard Payton Pritchard to a two-year contract extension worth $44.2 million, NBA.com reported on Saturday 17 October (US time).
Pritchard, 28, is under contract through 2028. The Boston Globe reported that the extension begins in the 2028-29 season, and NBA.com said it includes a mutual option for 2029-30.
“He’s just a flat-out winner whose toughness, commitment to team, and work ethic are all elite,” Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said, according to NBA.com.
Boston drafted Pritchard with the 26th pick in 2020. He averaged career highs of 17.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game in 2025-26, NBA.com said. He was part of the Celtics team that won the 2024 NBA championship and was named the league’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2025.
Speaking on Sunday, Pritchard told reporters: “I think it just shows that I think I’m on the right path,” the Globe reported. Coach Joe Mazzulla said Pritchard had “maintained a level of toughness, a level of resilience”.
The Globe also reported that the Celtics converted guard Devin Carter’s training-camp contract into a two-way contract on Sunday.
No NBA games were played over the weekend; the 2026-27 regular season begins on Tuesday 20 October (US time), according to the NBA.
