Trump and Vance launch $25 million fraud whistleblower programme offering up to $30,000 per tip
The Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, run by the Justice Department, will pay tipsters whose information leads to a fraud conviction or major federal enforcement action, a White House official said.
US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday 20 October unveiled a $25 million programme to reward people who report fraud involving taxpayer money, according to a White House official cited by CNN and Fox News.
The Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, or WHIP, will pay up to $30,000 to anyone whose tip leads to a fraud conviction or a significant federal enforcement action, the official said. Submitting an allegation alone will not qualify for a reward. The Justice Department will administer the programme, and tips can be submitted through fraud.gov.
The announcement was planned for the Oval Office with the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, which Trump set up in March with Vance as chairman. The White House official told Fox News that Trump would also present independent journalist Nick Shirley with a $10,000 cheque for his reporting on suspected fraud in Minnesota.
“This administration has zero tolerance for individuals who steal from Americans,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told Fox News.
Trump was also scheduled to hold a midterm election rally in North Carolina on Tuesday, NBC News reported. US midterm elections take place on 3 November.
