US President Donald Trump used a series of Truth Social posts from 8:49pm GMT on Tuesday 20 October to promote an executive order on women’s health that he signed on Monday, US time.

In a second post at 9:08pm GMT he shared a New York Times report headlined “Melania Trump Announces White House Women’s Health Initiative”.

The order, published by the White House, directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to set up a new Women’s Health Division within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) within 90 days. HHS said the division will research conditions including heart disease, cancer, endometriosis, infertility, menopause, Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis, and push for more women and girls in clinical trials.

The order also creates a White House Women’s Health Task Force, co-chaired by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles. NBC News reported that the new division will not replace NIH’s existing Office of Research on Women’s Health.

“For generations, women have faced unanswered questions about conditions that uniquely or disproportionately affect them,” Kennedy said in an HHS statement, crediting the First Lady’s leadership. NIH director Jay Bhattacharya said the division “will help close lingering evidence gaps”.
