Spotify launches paid podcast memberships in 34 markets, including Australia
Spotify said eligible podcast creators can now sell memberships with perks such as bonus episodes, fewer ads and early access, and will keep 90% of the revenue.
Spotify said on 20 October that it has started rolling out paid podcast Memberships in 34 markets, letting eligible creators charge fans for extra content and benefits inside the Spotify app.
According to Spotify, creators can decide what a membership includes, such as exclusive audio or video, bonus episodes, fewer ads, early access and access to a show’s archive, and can offer several tiers and prices. Both free and Premium Spotify users can join from a show’s page in supported markets, the company said.
Spotify said creators will keep 90% of the revenue from memberships. To be eligible, a show must be hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone and have at least three published episodes, 100 listeners or viewers, and 100 hours of listening or viewing on Spotify in the previous 30 days.
The initial markets include Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong and most European Union countries, according to the company’s list.
Shows launching memberships on the first day include Making Sense with Sam Harris and The Shawn Ryan Show, Spotify said. The company said the feature was first previewed at its Investor Day earlier in 2026 and adds to its existing creator income options, including advertising and the Spotify Partner Program.
