PSG 2-0 Lyon: substitutes Mayulu and Godts score late as Paris Saint-Germain go top of Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain beat Lyon 2-0 at the Parc des Princes on Monday 26 October, with both goals scored by substitutes, BBC Sport and ESPN reported. The match had been moved from Sunday after police ordered a 24-hour postponement because of expected protests in Paris, ESPN said.

How the goals came

The first half ended 0-0. Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif saved from Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche, and PSG’s Matvey Safonov saved from Julien Duranville and Zachary Athekame, according to the club’s match report and ESPN.

Senny Mayulu, on for Torres in the 65th minute, scored in the 72nd with a low shot from the edge of the area after a pass from Mika Godts, BBC Sport’s match data shows. Godts, who came on in the 57th minute, made it 2-0 in the 84th minute after a counter-attack, from a pass by Quentin Ndjantou. beIN SPORTS said it was Godts’s first goal for PSG since joining from Ajax and Mayulu’s first since April.

What it means

PSG have won five league games in a row and eight in all competitions, ESPN said. They lead Ligue 1 on 17 points from eight games, one ahead of Rennes; Lyon are fifth on 14, BBC Sport’s table shows. ESPN noted that Lyon would also have gone top with a win.

Before kick-off PSG fans displayed a banner for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament in last week’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona, ESPN reported.
