Netflix has released the full trailer for its six-part adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, written by Dolly Alderton, with Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy and Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet. The series premieres on 3 December.
Netflix has released the full trailer for its new series adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, which premieres on the streaming service on Thursday, 3 December.
The six-part limited series is written by Dolly Alderton, who wrote all six episodes, and directed by Euros Lyn. Emma Corrin plays Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden plays Mr Darcy, with Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet and Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet.
Netflix said the cast also includes Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Hopey Parish as Mary, Hollie Avery as Kitty and Rhea Norwood as Lydia, along with Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr Wickham and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
According to Netflix, the trailer is the first time the characters have been shown on screen in motion, after Alderton released 11 photos of the cast at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, England.
Netflix said the adaptation stays faithful to Austen’s 1813 novel while using the series format to explore some lesser-known storylines and characters. Alderton told Netflix’s Tudum site that her first reaction to the offer was, “I absolutely cannot do this. This is everyone’s favorite book.”
Corrin is also an executive producer on the series, alongside Alderton, Lyn, and Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter of production company Lookout Point.
