Quentin Tarantino showed the first 17 minutes of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth to an AFI Fest audience at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Friday night, 23 October, Variety reported.
Tarantino, who wrote the screenplay, appeared after a festival screening of his 2019 film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Following a question-and-answer session moderated by Rotten Tomatoes’ Jacqueline Coley, he told the audience he could either talk about the new film or “show you the first 17 minutes”, according to Variety. The film’s director, David Fincher, was also in attendance, the publication said.
The Netflix film brings back Brad Pitt as stuntman Cliff Booth, the role that won him the Academy Award for best supporting actor, and is set in Los Angeles in 1977, eight years after the original. Its cast also includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller. It is scheduled to open in IMAX cinemas on 25 November before streaming on Netflix from 23 December.
Tarantino said he had wanted to return to the character because he “loved the way that Brad played him”, Variety reported. He also said previews of his West End play The Popinjay Cavalier, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, begin in February, with rehearsals starting in November.
