Céline Dion to sing Paul McCartney's original songs for animated film 'High in the Clouds'

Céline Dion will perform original songs written and composed by Paul McCartney for the 3D animated feature High in the Clouds, Deadline reported on Tuesday 27 October. The soundtrack will be released worldwide by Universal Music Group, according to the report.

The film is adapted from McCartney’s 2005 children’s novel, co-written with Philip Ardagh. Dion had already been announced in the voice cast, playing Sugartail, the mother of the main character, a teenage squirrel called Wirral voiced by Himesh Patel. Hannah Waddingham voices Gretsch, an owl who has banned all music from the town. The cast also includes McCartney, Idris Elba, Lionel Richie, Ringo Starr and Jimmy Fallon, Deadline reported.

The film is directed by Toby Genkel, and Oscar winner Michael Giacchino composed the score based on McCartney’s themes, according to Deadline. It is produced by Gaumont with McCartney’s MPL Communications, and Gaumont plans a work-in-progress screening at the upcoming American Film Market. No release date was given.

The news comes 10 days after Dion finished a 16-show run at La Plenitude Arena in Paris, which Deadline described as her first major concert programme since she was forced to abandon her Courage World Tour in 2020.

“I’ve just been listening to some of her parts, and I’m blown away by it,” McCartney wrote on social media in September, Deadline reported.
