Boeing reports $116 million third-quarter loss; shares fall about 9%
Boeing posted a net loss of $116 million on revenue of $24.2 billion for the third quarter, with its commercial airplanes unit still loss-making. Its shares fell about 9% in Tuesday trading, CNBC reported.
Boeing reported a net loss of $116 million for the third quarter of 2026 on Tuesday 27 October, compared with a loss of $5.3 billion a year earlier, when results included a charge on the 777X programme.
Revenue rose 4% to $24.2 billion. The loss per share was $0.26, and the core loss per share, a non-GAAP measure, was $0.34, the company said. CNBC reported that the loss was wider than analysts expected, while revenue was above the LSEG consensus estimate. Boeing shares fell about 9% in midday trading, according to CNBC. As of 17:50 GMT they were down 9.2% at $171.05, according to Yahoo Finance data, with the session still under way.
The Commercial Airplanes unit had revenue of $10.7 billion, down 3%, and an operating margin of minus 6.5%. Boeing attributed this mainly to a less favourable delivery mix, higher projected costs tied to future production rate adjustments and higher estimated supply chain costs. It delivered 161 commercial aircraft in the quarter and booked 300 net orders.
Defense, Space and Security revenue rose 15% to $7.9 billion, helped by a $252 million gain on the sale of HRL Laboratories. Total backlog reached a record $745 billion, the company said.
Boeing said the 737-7 and 737-10 received amended type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, and that the 777X remains on track for first delivery in 2027.
“But we are not done,” chief executive Kelly Ortberg said in the results statement, adding that the company remained focused on safety and quality.
