Sturm Graz 1-0 Marseille: Diakité goal leaves Marseille without a Europa League point
Oumar Diakité scored in the 13th minute in Graz. Marseille coach Bruno Genesio said he took responsibility for his team selection.
Sturm Graz beat Marseille 1-0 in Graz on Thursday, leaving the French club with no points from three Europa League games, Flashscore reported.
How it happened
Oumar Diakité scored first time in the 13th minute after Luca Weinhandl intercepted Nouhoum Kamissoko in the Marseille half, according to Flashscore. It was Diakité’s sixth goal in four appearances, the site said.
Simon Seidl hit the crossbar for Sturm in the first half, and Keyliane Abdallah hit the post for Marseille, Flashscore reported. Marseille made their first shot on target after 70 minutes, a curling effort from substitute Igor Paixão that Sturm goalkeeper Ammar Helać saved.
Marseille coach Bruno Genesio replaced Angel Gomes and Neal Maupay at half-time. Afterwards he told reporters, “I made choices, I take responsibility for them,” La Provence reported.
Flashscore said it was Marseille’s fifth successive Europa League defeat and Sturm’s first home win over a French side in a major European competition since 1999-2000. Marseille had won their previous two Ligue 1 games, the site said.
