Pakistan and Taliban forces clash again on border; Taliban say Pakistani rockets killed a civilian in Paktika

Taliban police in Afghanistan's Paktika province said Pakistani rocket fire killed one civilian and wounded two on Sunday. Pakistan's state broadcaster said Pakistani forces hit Afghan border posts in response to what it called unprovoked firing at Angoor Adda in South Waziristan. Clashes were also reported near the Torkham crossing.

Neither side’s claims can be independently confirmed.

Pakistani and Afghan Taliban forces clashed again along their border on Sunday 1 November, according to statements from both sides.

The Taliban police command in Paktika province said Pakistani forces fired rockets at homes in Sordagh village, Shkin district, at about 10:30am GMT, killing a young man, wounding two other civilians and damaging several houses, KabulNow reported. Pakistani officials did not comment on that report. Local sources also reported clashes near the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province.

Pakistan’s state broadcaster Radio Pakistan said “unprovoked firing” from Afghan border posts on Pakistani checkpoints was continuing at Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, and that Pakistani forces responded by targeting “multiple Afghan border posts and mortar positions”. It said there were no reports of casualties on the Pakistani side.

Background: Pakistan accuses the Taliban government of letting Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups use Afghan territory to attack Pakistan; the Taliban deny this. The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has documented more than 1,700 civilian deaths and injuries from cross-border violence in Afghanistan between October 2025 and September 2026, KabulNow reported. Mediation by China, Russia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia has not produced an agreement. For the UN’s latest figures, see our earlier report.
