OpenAI and Google Cloud said on Wednesday 21 October that OpenAI’s frontier models and its Codex coding tools will be made available through Google Cloud’s Model Garden.

Google Cloud customers will be able to buy the models through the Google Cloud Marketplace, and companies with Google Cloud spending commitments will be able to count those purchases towards them, OpenAI said. It said OpenAI models will also come to Google’s Antigravity development environment and Gemini Agent. General availability is planned in the coming weeks.

“This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building,” OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman said. Google Cloud chief executive Thomas Kurian said the company wants to give customers “a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job”.

OpenAI said Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner. Axios reported that the agreement makes OpenAI’s models available to customers of all three major US cloud providers, after OpenAI’s expansion onto Amazon Web Services earlier this year.

Mike Leone, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, told Axios the deal was significant for both companies because many Google Cloud customers want access to OpenAI models without moving their data.
