Anthropic opens research preview of Claude Duet, an app where Claude works as a proactive agent

The app sends a morning brief, monitors connected apps and keeps working on tasks in the background, Anthropic said. It is available by waitlist to US Pro and Max subscribers.

Anthropic has opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app in which its Claude AI model works as what the company calls a proactive agent. The preview is available by waitlist, starting with Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, Anthropic said on Wednesday 21 October.

According to Anthropic, Claude Duet sends users a short brief each morning on the most important items across their connected apps, checks those accounts every few hours and messages them when something needs attention. Users can hand it tasks, which it carries out on a virtual machine with its own browser, so the user’s phone or laptop does not need to be on. The company said the app is built around its Claude Opus 5.5 model.

Anthropic said Claude Duet shows the user exactly what it is about to do and waits for approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. Some actions, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts, are not allowed even with approval, it said. The company said a new classifier is designed to reject requests to share information such as credit card numbers and government identification.

The app is available on iOS, Android and claude.ai and uses the same usage limits as the rest of a user’s Claude plan, Anthropic said. It said the early version “still might misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent”.
