US defence technology company Anduril and chipmaker Qualcomm on Tuesday 27 October announced BlueChip, a new product line that starts with a laptop designed and assembled in the United States.

The first BlueChip laptop is a hardened machine aimed at government, defence, first responders and public-safety users, the companies said. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series platform, which TechCrunch reported is made at TSMC’s plant in Arizona. Anduril said it has built working prototypes and plans to start taking orders in 2027. It has not announced a price; founder Palmer Luckey estimated it would cost about 20% more than typical high-end PCs, TechCrunch reported.

Anduril said components from US and allied-country suppliers make up more than 90% of the prototypes’ component cost, and that circuit boards will be assembled at its Arsenal-1 facility in Ohio. Its stated long-term goal is a fully domestic supply chain.

“As of right now, the laptop’s bill of materials is about 90% U.S. and allied, and we have a technical roadmap to get to 100% domestic over time,” Luckey said at the launch, according to TechCrunch. He said some parts, including the display itself, are currently made only in China.

Anduril said the work includes designing the case for US machining, adapting the battery to existing American battery technology and developing a process to bond US-made display glass. Organisations can register interest on its website.
