SK Hynix reports record quarter as revenue passes 100 trillion won; shares jump
South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix said third-quarter revenue rose to a record 104.6 trillion won and operating profit to 83.3 trillion won, citing demand for AI memory. It also announced a 14 trillion won dividend and a 20 trillion won share buyback.
SK Hynix said on Wednesday 28 October that its revenue rose to a record 104.6 trillion won in the third quarter, the first time quarterly sales have exceeded 100 trillion won. Operating profit was a record 83.3 trillion won, an operating margin of 80%, and net profit was 39.8 trillion won.
Revenue was up 32% from the second quarter and 328% from a year earlier, while operating profit rose 632% year on year, according to the company’s figures. SK Hynix said rising prices for key products amid demand for AI memory drove the results, with higher sales of server DDR5 chips and the start of large-scale HBM4 shipments.
The company said it expects demand for memory to exceed supply through 2030 and that it has signed long-term agreements with 14 major customers covering more than half of its 2027-2028 production capacity. Chief executive Kwak Noh-Jung said the company had ended its review of a share listing for its Solidigm unit, citing financial market conditions.
The board approved a third-quarter dividend of 14 trillion won, or 20,000 won a share including a special payout from gains on its Kioxia investment, and a 20 trillion won share repurchase. The company said total shareholder returns for 2026 would be about 100 trillion won.
South Korea’s Kospi index rose 6.6% and SK Hynix shares about 11% after the results, CoinDesk reported. Reuters reported that SK Hynix’s US-listed shares were up 12.2% and Micron 4.8% in New York trading on Wednesday.
