Houthi media say Saudi-led airstrikes on Sanaa killed 11 people, after the coalition reported intercepting two missiles

The Houthis' Al-Masirah outlet said Saudi airstrikes on Yemen's capital Sanaa on Saturday killed 11 people, including six women and a child at a cement factory workers' residence. The Saudi-led coalition said it had destroyed two Houthi ballistic missiles fired toward Yanbu and Taif.

Airstrikes on Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Saturday 24 October killed 11 people, the Houthis’ Al-Masirah outlet reported, describing them as “Saudi enemy airstrikes”. It said one strike on a house killed at least four people, and another on a residence for cement factory workers in Sanaa governorate killed six women and a child and wounded three others. The figures could not be independently confirmed.

Earlier on Saturday, the coalition said it had destroyed two ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis toward Yanbu and Taif. Saudi Civil Defence said debris from intercepted missiles fell in the Mecca and Medina regions, including in Jeddah, Taif and Rabigh. The Houthis denied targeting Mecca and Medina, saying their operations “target Saudi oil facilities and military bases”.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, an Aramco facility in Yanbu, the Rabigh refinery, the East-West Pipeline and other sites. The Interior Ministry of Yemen’s internationally recognised government said Houthi missiles hit coast guard buildings in Aden, AFP reported.

Background: Yemen’s war pits the Iran-backed Houthis against the Saudi-supported, internationally recognised government. A 2022 truce had largely held until fighting resumed in July amid the wider Middle East war, AFP reported. The US this week ordered non-essential embassy staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia, citing the Houthi threat.
