Dune: Part Three sets BFI IMAX presale record with 33,000 tickets in 24 hours
London's BFI IMAX said first-day advance sales topped £880,000, ahead of the £750,000 record set by Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Denis Villeneuve's film opens in December.
The BFI IMAX in London, the UK’s largest cinema screen, sold 33,000 advance tickets for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three in 24 hours, a first-day presale record for the venue, Deadline reported on Wednesday 21 October.
The sales grossed more than £880,000, according to figures published by the BFI. The previous first-day record at the venue was £750,000 for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, released this year. Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two (2024) is third on the list with £366,000, followed by Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023) with £254,000.
Deadline reported that three opening-weekend screenings at the venue had sold out in under an hour in April, and two preview screenings sold out earlier this month.
The BFI IMAX will show the film in IMAX 70mm, with preview screenings starting on 15 December. Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two return to the screen from 11 December. The film opens in cinemas, including the BFI IMAX, on 18 December, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Dune: Part Three stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani and is set nearly two decades after the previous instalment, according to the official synopsis. Dune: Part Two grossed $714 million worldwide, Deadline said.
