Putin backs Russian cabinet reshuffle: Siluanov to become deputy PM, Kozhemyako to replace Trutnev in the Far East
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has nominated four deputy prime ministers and a new transport minister after a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on Monday. The State Duma must approve the nominations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has backed a set of government appointments proposed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the Kremlin said on Monday. The nominations have been sent to the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, which must confirm them under Russia’s constitution, the government press service said, according to TASS.
“The prime minister presented his proposals to the president on a number of personnel changes in the government. These proposals received President Putin’s support,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, TASS reported. The two met at the Kremlin on Monday morning, Moscow time.
According to the government, as reported by RIA Novosti and Meduza, Mishustin nominated:
- Finance Minister Anton Siluanov as deputy prime minister, in a new combined post of deputy prime minister and finance minister;
- Primorsky Krai Governor Oleg Kozhemyako as deputy prime minister and presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, replacing Yuri Trutnev;
- Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin as a deputy prime minister whose duties include the transport sector;
- First Deputy Finance Minister Irina Okladnikova as deputy prime minister and head of the government staff, replacing Dmitry Grigorenko;
- Dmitry Yadrov, head of the federal air transport agency Rosaviatsia, as transport minister.
Siluanov has led the Finance Ministry since 2011 and was also first deputy prime minister from 2018 to 2020, Meduza and The Insider reported. Trutnev has overseen the Far East since 2013 and Grigorenko has headed the government staff since 2020, The Insider reported. The deputy prime minister post for transport had been held until late September by Vitaly Savelyev, who left the government after being elected to the State Duma, according to The Insider.
No new roles for Trutnev or Grigorenko had been announced as of 10am GMT.
