Major European share indices closed mostly lower on Tuesday 20 October.
France’s CAC 40 fell 0.38% to 7,838.49, Germany’s DAX slipped 0.06% to 25,304.42, Britain’s FTSE 100 lost 0.29% to 10,733.0 and Italy’s FTSE MIB eased 0.03% to 49,071.37, according to closing figures reported by Anadolu Agency and investingLive. Sharecast said French markets underperformed amid concern about civil unrest. Anadolu reported that French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu had instructed regional prefects to impose partial curfews in some areas after protests that included violence and looting.
German news agency dpa-AFX reported that the DAX had briefly fallen to around 25,000 points before recovering most of its losses, and attributed the recovery in part to reports of a possible compromise proposal from mediators in Qatar and Pakistan in the US-Iran conflict. The Euro Stoxx 50 closed down 0.38% at 6,121.66.
Anadolu reported that a survey of German investor expectations fell in October for the first time in nine months.
