Atmos Renewables buys Australian solar and wind projects from Germany's BayWa r.e.
The deal takes Atmos's operating and under-construction capacity above 2 gigawatts. No price was disclosed.
Australian renewable energy owner Atmos Renewables has bought a portfolio of solar, wind and battery projects from the German developer BayWa r.e., the companies announced on Friday, according to RenewEconomy. No purchase price was disclosed.
The deal includes the operating 106-megawatt Yatpool solar farm in Victoria and 20 MW Hughenden solar farm in Queensland, the 262 MW Bullawah wind project near Hay in New South Wales, and several earlier-stage projects. Atmos said the purchase takes its portfolio to 19 wind, solar and battery assets, with more than 2 gigawatts of capacity operating or under construction.
Bullawah has planning approval from New South Wales and grid access rights in the state’s new South-West Renewable Energy Zone, RenewEconomy reported. It would be Atmos’s first wind farm in the state.
“Our focus will be on progressing the project carefully through the remaining phases of planning and development, preparing the project to be investment-ready in 2027,” Atmos chief executive Nigel Baker said. He said existing power purchase agreements, landowner agreements and stakeholder commitments would be honoured.
BayWa flagged major restructuring earlier this year because of what it called a difficult market situation, and said in March it would focus on core markets in Europe. Its chief operating officer, Daniel Gäfke, said the sale showed continued interest in renewable energy infrastructure.
Earlier this month, Atmos reached financial close on the Teebar battery in Queensland and the 470 MW Parron Maam Marang wind farm in Western Australia.
